The International Human Rights Organization Sri Lanka (IHRO) is an independent, non-profit national organization committed to advancing the implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) at local, regional, national, and international levels. IHRO brings together a global network of individuals, educators, and organizations dedicated to promoting human rights awareness, education, and protection for all people.
IHRO’s core purpose is to develop and deliver human rights education resources and initiatives that inform, support, and unite individuals, educators, civil society organizations, and governmental institutions. Through these efforts, the organization works to strengthen the dissemination, understanding, and practical adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights across all sectors of society.
Founded on the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, IHRO was established in response to the continued prevalence of human rights violations worldwide that undermine the spirit, intent, and principles of this landmark international charter—the first human rights document adopted by the global community of nations. The Declaration’s thirty articles form the foundation of a just and peaceful society, where individuals can fully enjoy their fundamental freedoms and nations can coexist in mutual respect and peace.
We are proud to announce the official launch of the academic publication titled “Human Rights Research.” This volume features peer-reviewed papers by scholars and members of Sri Lanka’s academic community, exploring critical aspects of human rights, including theory, methodology, institutional frameworks, and practical implementation. The publication serves as a significant contribution to informed dialogue, fostering scholarly engagement on human dignity, justice, and peace.
